Ovaries Pain

Welcome to Ovaries Pain. Ovaries pain is many times associated with the menstrual cycle cramping. The ovary is a female egg-producing reproductive organ. Ovaries in females are analogous to testes in males – in that both are endocrine glands. The ovary (1 on each side) is located in the lateral wall of the pelvis in a region called the ovarian fossa.

The ovaries aren’t attached to the fallopian tubes but to the outer layer of the uterus via the ovarian ligaments. Usually each ovary takes turns releasing eggs every month; however, if there was a case where one ovary was absent or dysfunctional then the other ovary would continue providing eggs to be released.

The vast majority of the eggs within the ovaries steadily die, until they are depleted at menopause. At birth, there are approximately 1 million eggs; and by the time of puberty, only about 300,000 remain. Of these, 300 to 400 will be ovulated during a woman’s reproductive lifetime. The eggs continue to degenerate during pregnancy, with the use of birth control pills, and in the presence or absence of regular menstrual cycles.

Pain during menstruation is many times referred as ovary pain. This pain can interfere with daily activities. Menstrual pain is often used synonymously with menstrual cramps, but the latter may also refer to menstrual uterine contractions, which are generally of higher strength, duration and frequency than in the rest of the menstrual cycle.

Dysmenorrhea can feature different kinds of pain, including sharp, throbbing, dull, nauseating, burning, or shooting pain. Dysmenorrhea may precede menstruation by several days or may accompany it, and it usually subsides as menstruation tapers off.
